What it is
The Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation, established 1984 in Nicosia, runs a year-round programme of rotating exhibitions covering Cypriot art history, archaeology, manuscripts, maps, photography, and ethnography. The Foundation maintains permanent collections of significant Cypriot material and partners with major Greek and Cypriot museums for visiting exhibitions.
When & where
City: Nicosia, Cyprus.
Venue: Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation, in the historic centre of Nicosia.
Frequency: rotating exhibitions year-round; check the Foundation’s calendar for specific dates.
Why it matters for collectors
The Foundation’s library is the central reference resource for Cypriot art history and the holdings include critical comparanda for any collector active in Cypriot material. The exhibitions are programmed at a higher curatorial standard than commercial venues and frequently include works on loan from the A.G. Leventis Gallery, the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, and the Cyprus Museum.
How to participate
Most exhibitions are open to the public free of charge. Major exhibitions are accompanied by published catalogues that become standard references for the relevant material.
Practical notes
Combine a visit to the Foundation with the A.G. Leventis Gallery (a short walk away in central Nicosia), the Cyprus Museum, and the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia.
