What it is

The Hellenic Philotelic Society (Ελληνική Φιλοτελική Εταιρεία), founded 1925, is the senior Greek philatelic society. The Society organises members’ meetings, periodic exchanges, and competitive philatelic exhibitions throughout the year, with rotating focus on Greek classical issues (the Large Hermes Heads, Small Hermes Heads, Olympic 1896, and the Cretan and Ionian-Islands provisional issues), modern Greek issues, and worldwide-philately exhibits by Greek collectors.

When & where

City: Athens, Greece (with regional branches in Thessaloniki and other cities).
Frequency: monthly meetings during the academic year; periodic competitive exhibitions.

Why it matters for collectors

The Society publishes Φιλοτελικά Νέα (Philatelic News), the Greek-language journal of record. The Large Hermes Head issues of 1861 — particularly the early Athens prints — are a deep specialty area, and the Society’s library and member network are the central resource for serious work in the category.

How to participate

Membership is open; annual dues are modest. Major exhibitions are typically open to the public.
