9. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Ref. 5402 A-Series (1972)

10. Omega Speedmaster CK2998 (Pre-Moon, 1959-1962)

The Speedmaster reference that earned NASA flight qualification before being launched into space. Mint CK2998s reach $80,000-$200,000.

Authentication

Phillips, Christie’s, Sotheby’s, and Antiquorum dominate vintage watch auctions. Original papers, hand-signed warranty cards, and original boxes can multiply value 2-5×. Service history matters. Reproduction dials, swapped movements, and refurbished cases are common pitfalls. The Rolex and Patek Philippe extracts (factory archive certificates) are the gold standard for authentication.
