Gold Star is a premium rarity tier introduced in the Pokémon TCG EX era (EX Team Rocket Returns through EX Power Keepers, 2004–2007) featuring full-foil shiny Pokémon. Gold Star cards are identified by a small gold star next to the Pokémon name and have low pull rates relative to standard rare cards. The most valuable Gold Stars include Espeon, Umbreon, Charizard, Rayquaza, Mewtwo, and Lugia.

Gold Star is a rarity tier introduced in the Pokémon EX series of trading cards, running from EX Team Rocket Returns through to EX Power Keepers between 2004 and 2007. Cards in the tier feature a small gold star symbol next to the Pokémon’s name and depict shiny variants of popular Pokémon — colour-altered versions of the standard species — rendered in alternate-art holographic treatments that were among the most visually striking cards of the era.

Gold Star pull rates were extremely low, typically estimated at one in roughly seventy-five booster packs across the run, and the small overall print of EX-era sets means surviving high-grade examples are scarce. Gold Star Rayquaza, Charizard, Espeon and Umbreon are the most coveted entries in the tier and regularly appear on lists of the most valuable modern Pokémon cards. See our Gold Star Rayquaza item entry for a deeper look at one specific example.
