A condition issue where a card’s edge or corner shows a white line or area, caused by impact, abrasion, or stacking pressure exposing the card’s underlying paper layer. Whitening is one of the most common reasons cards fail to achieve top grades.

Even slight whitening invisible to the naked eye can show up under a grader’s lamp and loupe. Cards stored in stacks without sleeves are particularly vulnerable.
