A reverse holo is a trading card variant in which the holographic foil pattern appears on the non-image area of the card, leaving the artwork printed in standard ink on a non-foil substrate. The treatment is the visual inverse of a regular holo, hence the name. Reverse holos function as a parallel rarity slot in many Pokémon sets from EX onward, where every common, uncommon and non-holo rare in the set has a reverse-holo counterpart inserted at one per pack.

Reverse holos are generally less valuable than their holo equivalents but more valuable than the base versions. They are a significant focus of master-set collectors, who aim to obtain every printing variant of every card in a given set.

Reverse holo cards have been produced at every rarity tier since their introduction in 2002, including reverse-holo commons that are pulled at higher rates than even standard rares. Some collectors specialise in reverse-holo collecting specifically because it offers a complete-set goal that is more achievable than chasing first-edition holo rares while still requiring careful set tracking.
