A thin, soft plastic sleeve used as the first protective layer for a trading card. Named for their original retail price (about a penny each), they protect against surface scratches but provide little structural protection.

Best practice is to place the card in a penny sleeve, then a top loader, then store upright in a dry, climate-controlled space. Always orient the sleeve opening upward in the top loader to allow easy removal.
