The 1st Edition stamp is a small Edition 1 mark printed in black ink on the lower-left of the artwork window of early Pokémon TCG cards (Base Set through Neo Destiny in English). The stamp identifies the first print run of a set, after which Wizards of the Coast removed the stamp for unlimited reprints. 1st Edition cards command substantial premiums over their unlimited counterparts, particularly for Base Set and Jungle.

The 1st Edition stamp is a small marking applied to the lower-left of the artwork window on certain Pokémon trading cards from the original Wizards of the Coast era. The stamp consists of the numeral 1 inside a circle accompanied by the word EDITION, indicating that the card was produced in the limited initial print run of its set. Once a set’s first edition print run ended, subsequent print runs dropped the stamp.

For Base Set, Jungle, Fossil, and several Neo era expansions, the 1st Edition stamp is the single most important rarity multiplier on a card. First-edition holographic rares command premiums of five to ten times their unlimited counterparts in equivalent grades, and the gap widens further at the top grade tiers. The stamp must be authenticated alongside other print-run indicators since the stamp itself can be forged. See our first edition entry for the broader concept and our Base Set buyer’s guide for hands-on identification.
